August 22- 27, 2016 at Miracle Ranch Camp : Port Orchard, WA
Camp To Belong Washington continues our journey and dedication in reuniting brothers and sisters from across our state that are separated in foster, adoptive or kinship care through our unique Summer Camp Program. We are dedicated volunteers who work year round planning and raising the funds needed each year to run this program.
Camp To Belong Washington replicates a proven program that has been serving foster youth for 18 years. Not only do these campers receive a fun experience filled with traditional camp activities, but they are given the time as brothers and sisters to make memories together, that most of us take for granted. It is not uncommon for youth in foster care to see their siblings 4 hours a month…48 hours a year. Several of our 2009 campers had not seen their brothers and sisters in months…for some it had been years. Camp To Belong Washington gives them the opportunity to play…eat…sleep…heal and bond during a full week at camp!
In 2009, Camp To Belong was brought to Washington State through a collaborative effort and partnership with Foster Family Connections, Washington State Children’s Administration and Camp To Belong NW. It is through this partnership that Camp To Belong Washington was launched and is directed by Co-Founders April VanGesen and Deb Kennedy of Foster Family Connections. Both April and Deb are foster and adoptive parents who have a passion for these kids. Almost 100 brothers and sisters from across the state were reunited last August at Miracle Ranch in Port Orchard, WA for the third Camp To Belong Washington!
In Washington State, there are on average 9,500 children in foster care at any given time. Nationally, with up to 75% of foster children separated from at least one sibling the need for a camp and program such as this, is great. Camp To Belong Washington relies solely on donations from individuals, businesses, Corporations and grants. We need your help and it is through your generous support that we are making a difference for siblings living in foster care.
We are actively seeking volunteers for our next camp season, if you have a heart for children or a talent you would like to share we could use you! It is through year round fundraising and dedicated volunteers that we look forward to reuniting 100 brothers and sisters this year!
