Connie Hayek joined the Board of Directors of Camp To Belong in 2010 and works on fund development and grant mining. She became involved with the organization after an enlightening conversation interviewing founder Lynn Price for a BlogTalk Radio program. Hayek has worked in child welfare and human services for over 20 years, beginning her professional career as a case worker in foster care services with a public agency. Since then, she has held a variety of roles in the child welfare system, including supervision and management in public and private settings, training of case workers and foster/adoptive parents, and providing technical assistance/consultation. Most recently, Hayek worked for a national organization focusing on data, research, and best practices in child welfare.
Hayek has also been active in a variety of community organizations and currently mentors youth seeking a college education after having aged out of the foster care system. She earned her undergraduate degree at Iowa State University and a graduate degree at Drake University. Her self-proclaimed greatest achievement is effectively disrupting the computer network in the statewide university system, prior to a change in majors from Computer Science to Psychology.
In addition to child welfare, her passions include writing (and reading), creating cheesecakes, stunt kite flying and collecting tech gadgets. Hayek grew up in rural Iowa. She has four brothers, conveniently named alphabetically, reducing the likelihood of confusion about birth order.
