KARYN SCHIMMELS – Director

Karyn Corpron Schimmels is the past Camp To Belong International Board Chairman and sits on various committees. In 2000, Schimmels volunteered as a counselor at Camp To Belong- Colorado, and the experience had a huge impact on her and her dedication to the organization ever since. In 2006, Schimmels was instrumental in bringing the program to the Pacific Northwest as a member camp.

Schimmels grew up in Yakima, Washington, as the youngest child of seven. Schimmels completed her B.A. in Social Work at Washington State University in 1988. Upon graduation, she married another Yakima native, Charley Schimmels. Since 1988 they have made their home in Portland, Oregon, where they are working and raising three children. Schimmels earned her Master’s in Public Administration in 1992 from Lewis and Clark College.

With more than 23 years of experience, Schimmels has dedicated her career to the helping profession. She is an accomplished leader in public welfare for both the state of Oregon and several non-profit organizations in the region. Today she serves as Training Manager for the Oregon Department of Human Services, Child Welfare division.
