It was a defining moment.  Volunteering at Child Haven (a Las Vegas children’s shelter), and serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, Lynn Price recognized two concerning factors in the child welfare system.  Firstly, there were many statistics highlighting how youth in foster care were incarcerated, homeless or uneducated later in life.  Secondly, brothers and sisters were being separated when placed in foster care.

As a college graduate, with a family and career, Lynn did not want youth to use the system as an excuse to not do well for themselves.  And, separated from her older sister while in the foster care system, she did not want brothers and sisters to miss out on everyday childhood memories together that she and Andi didn’t have.

At the age of 8, Lynn learned that she had a biological sister living on the other side of town.  Subsequently, they had limited, supervised visits throughout their childhood.  Lynn and her older sister, Andi, did not develop a sister bond and friendship until they were young adults.

With the passion to make a difference for their success and sibling relationships, Lynn founded Camp To Belong.  She spent the first 13 years working for the organization full time to create the model that is now replicated internationally.  Now she serves as Founder and President Emeritus, visiting the Summer Camps and working on various CTB projects year round.

Recognized as an Ashoka Fellow, (global social entrepreneur), Lynn is honored as a “changemaker” working tirelessly on behalf of siblings separated in foster care. Learn more under Fellows at  https://www.ashoka.org/changemakers.  Additionally, she gives keynotes and conducts workshops for the child welfare sector to inspire the community with gratitude, and, to social entrepreneurs to encourage them to bring their visions to fruition.  She is the author of Vision For A Change, A Social Entrepreneur’s Insights From the Heart and Real Belonging, Give Siblings Their Right to Reunite®.

Meet Andi, Lynn’s Sister

Andi has joined Lynn at many of the Summer Camps and related programs over the years.  As sisters, they serve as role models and their bond is a beacon of hope for the siblings.

Andi is recently retired after serving 38 years in the field of special education.  Her love of teaching and acceptance of all people allow her to continue her passion and substitute teach in any subject, any grade, any level of ability.  She says, “Good teaching is good teaching.” That wonderful attitude has resulted in some distinguished awards for Andi, including: the Excellence in Education Award for her county, the Little Red Schoolhouse Award for her district (twice!) from nominations by her superiors, and The Friend of Education Award at NIU from a nomination by one of her students who had special needs.

Andi is an avid volunteer and also serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, Honorary Board Member of CTB-WI, Board member of DeKalb County Mental Health and Volunteer for DeKalb County (Illinois) Community Gardens.
